Product Description
Pheidole spadonia is a tiny, reddish-orange species of Big-Headed ants known for their striking coloration and intricate colony structure. These ants thrive in warm climates and are often found nesting in loose soil or sandy environments. Despite their small size, they are highly organized and display fascinating foraging behavior.
They are relatively easy to care for, requiring a steady supply of seeds, liquid sugars, and protein sources like small insects. With moderate growth rates and manageable care requirements, Pheidole spadonia is an excellent choice for ant-keeping enthusiasts who appreciate the unique dynamics of Big-Headed ant colonies.
Growth
Diet
Pheidole spadonia has a versatile diet that includes liquid sugars such as byFormica Sunburst, seeds, and protein sources like crickets, fruit flies, and mealworms. Notably, if seeds are a regular part of their diet, liquid sugars are not necessary, and vice versa. They show a particular preference for chia, dandelion, and bluegrass seeds, making these excellent choices for their nutritional needs.
Housing
These ants can live in a test tube for quite a while because they are so small. We recommend starting out by adding on a mini outworld. When there are a few hundred workers, you can move them into a small formicarium that can accommodate tiny ants.
