Curious about starting an ant colony but not sure where to begin? This kit is perfect for beginners and first-time ant keepers. Even experienced ant keepers will find the value in this kit worth investing in. Harvester ants are easy to care for, and this kit comes with everything you need to get started. While not necessary, you can offer additional food like insect protein (cricket legs or mealworm pieces), but keep it to less than 30% of their diet. As natural seed eaters, they thrive on seeds alone. Please note: Harvester ants can sting, so handle them with caution.

Live Queen Arrival Policy

As long as you at least choose Priority Mail shipping, and you also follow the live arrival requirements, your colony will be replaced if the queen dies during transport.

Included in the Ant Colony Kit:

Queen

• Includes at least 10 workers, and in-progress brood including eggs, larvae, and pupae
• Species:
  • Pogonomyrmex occidentalis (all states, excluding CA and FL)
  • Pogonomyrmex rugosus (CA only)
    • This is the black-variant of this genus

Food

• Harvester Ant Seeds -1˝ x 2-3/4˝ plastic container full of a variety seed mix including dandelion, rice grass, quinoa, bluegrass, dropseed, lacy phacelia, and chia. This seed mix will last at least 6 months.

Housing

• The Ant Den – a nest and attached outworld. They can live in this colony for at least 6 months.

Accessories

• Liquid Feeder (2ml) for drinking water
• 3 Plastic Dishes to hold food
• ZooMed Heating Cable – these ants love heat. Place the warm part of the cable over the nest. Note: retail packaging not included.
• Blunt-tipped syringe for adding water into The Ant Den.
